Introduction To Insurance

This course is designed to allow for a broad knowledge of general insurance, the history of insurance, general insurance classes, developments in insurance, basic legal aspects of insurance and the laws governing the operations of Companies, Agents and Brokers. Introduction to Insurance forms part of the entry requirements to all certificate courses.

The Marketing course provides a thorough knowledge of the understanding and application of marketing. Students will also have a knowledge and understanding of the history and development of marketing, the principles of product and planning, consumer behavior, communication, and market research.

This course is one of two pre-requisites for the Certificate in Loss Adjusting, Certificate in Motor Accident Investigation, and all Classes of Business. This course is designed to allow an understanding and awareness of the basic principles of law and their development.

The Certificate in Supervisory Management consists of 180 contact hours spread over a period of one year and one term. Each term lasts for four (4) months and the time allocation for each course is 45 hours.

This course examines current Motor Insurance Principles and Practices both in the U.K. and in Jamaica with the emphasis placed on the Jamaican application. It seeks to enhance the participants’ understanding of the ability to apply the subject matter through the use of practical exercises, role-play and take home assignments.

The Business Environment course provides a broad knowledge of the environment in which businesses operate, an understanding of the economic, ethical operation and financial framework with particular application to the transaction of insurance business.. Students will appreciate insurance in the world economy, the business organizations and their financial process.

The Certificate in Business Mathematics consists of 180 contact hours spread over a period of one year and one term. Each term lasts for four (4) months and the time allocation for each course is 45 hours. Applicants are required to pass all modules in the programme, every instrument of evaluation must be completed at the specified tine.

The certificate programmes offer specialization in the different classes of business and is designed for insurance and personnel from the wider business sector who are interested in being licensed as Sales Representative in the general insurance industry.

The Claims department is a very important part of any insurance organisation. This course is intended to inform and update claims personnel in their day to day work experience, through practical exercises, role play and lectures.

At the end of the course, the participating candidates are expected to have a good grasp of the rudiments of Marine Insurance Underwriting and Claims Principles for practical application at a senior level in their respective fields.Regional Focus: Pursue your option for insurance job throughout the Caribbean.

The Certificate in motor investigation course utilizes the basic concepts of allowing participants to properly and completely investigate and record the information necessary to evaluate collisions. The course will incorporate current methods and terminology to determine the cause of collisions.

Personal Insurance

The Personal Insurance course allows students to have a basic knowledge of the relevant statutes, understand the nature, purpose and scope of insurance and risk assessment techniques, identify the role of the surveyor and the survey report. This course also allows students to understand the principles and practices of handling personal lines claims and the operations of claims conditions.

The Insurance Law course provides thorough knowledge and understanding of the laws which form the background to the operation of insurance. Students will be required to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the system within which these laws operate and administered and the ability to apply knowledge and skills to simple situations.

The purpose of this course is to educate participants in all aspects of Property Insurance. Participants will be taught the history and development of Property Insurance, the Basic Principles of Insurance as they apply to Property risks, the theory related to Property Insurance and the differences between types of Property Insurance.

This course is designed to introduce students to the sources and types of liability and potential future developments. 

This course examines current Motor Insurance Principles and Practices both in the U.K. and in Jamaica with the emphasis placed on the Jamaican application. The Advanced Claims course seeks to define the role of the claims department and explain the principles of insurance applicable to claims. Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of how claims should be handled. Examine and understand policy contracts, analyze and understand investigative reports and incident report forms. 

The Risk and Insurance course is designed for students to have an acceptable level of knowledge, understanding and application of Risk and Insurance. Students will have an appreciation of the nature of risk, risk assessment techniques and ways in which risk are measured.

This programme is designed for persons already practicing loss adjusting and/or persons interested in making a career change. Emphasis is placed on observational, communication skills and analyzing information. This course is accommodated jointly with the CIPS and Jamaican German Automotive School Academy (JAGAS) where certification is awarded by National Council on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NCTVET).

Principles and Practices of Reinsurance course are designed for students to have an acceptable level of knowledge, understanding, and application of Reinsurance. Students will be able to outline the knowledge of nature and function of reinsurance, the operation of quota share and surplus treaties, law relating to reinsurance and placing of reinsurance and the reinsurance markets.

This course aims to develop students’ ability to use standard English structures to express themselves clearly, precisely and fluently in speech and writing and to evaluate that ability in themselves and their peers.
