LEGAL PRINCIPLES

This course is one of two pre-requisites for the Certificate in Loss Adjusting, Certificate in Motor Accident Investigation, and all Classes of Business. This course is designed to allow an understanding and awareness of the basic principles of law and their development.

PERSONAL INSURANCE

The Personal Insurance course allows students to have a basic knowledge of the relevant statutes, understand the nature, purpose and scope of insurance and risk assessment techniques, identify the role of the surveyor and the survey report.

INTRODUCTION TO INSURANCE

This course is designed to allow for a broad knowledge of general insurance, the history of insurance, general insurance classes, developments in insurance, basic legal aspects of insurance and the laws governing the operations of Companies, Agents and Brokers.

MARKETING

The Marketing course provides a thorough knowledge of the understanding and application of marketing. Students will also have a knowledge and understanding of the history and development of marketing, the principles of product and planning, consumer behavior, communication, and market research.

BUSINESS COMMUNICATION

The Certificate in Supervisory Management consists of 180 contact hours spread over a period of one year and one term. Each term lasts for four (4) months and the time allocation for each course is 45 hours.

INSURANCE LAW

The Insurance Law course provides thorough knowledge and understanding of the laws which form the background to the operation of insurance.

PROPERTY INSURANCE

The purpose of this course is to educate participants in all aspects of Property Insurance. Participants will be taught the history and development of Property Insurance, the Basic Principles of Insurance as they apply to Property risks, the theory related to Property Insurance and the differences between types of Property Insurance.

LIABILITY INSURANCE

This course is designed to introduce students to the sources and types of liability and potential future developments. The course will detail how a policy is structured and outline the fundamentals of Underwriting and Rating.

MOTOR VEHICLE INSURANCE

This course examines current Motor Insurance Principles and Practices both in the U.K. and in Jamaica with the emphasis placed on the Jamaican application. It seeks to enhance the participants’ understanding of the ability to apply the subject matter through the use of practical exercises, role-play and take home assignments.

ACCIDENT INSURANCE

This course seeks to increase the participant’s awareness and understanding of the general principles of the various Classes of Accident Insurance, so that they may appreciate and be able to advise clients or potential clients how each cover may meet their specific needs.

BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT

The Business Environment course provides a broad knowledge of the environment in which businesses operate, an understanding of the economic, ethical operation and financial framework with particular application to the transaction of insurance business. 

ADVANCE CLAIMS

The Advanced Claims course seeks to define the role of the claims department and explain the principles of insurance applicable to claims.

BUSINESS MATHEMATICS

The Certificate in Business Mathematics consists of 180 contact hours spread over a period of one year and one term. Each term lasts for four (4) months and the time allocation for each course is 45 hours.

RISK & INSURANCE

The Risk and Insurance course is designed for students to have an acceptable level of knowledge, understanding and application of Risk and Insurance. Students will have an appreciation of the nature of risk, risk assessment techniques and ways in which risk are measured.

CLASSES OF BUSINESS

The certificate programmes offer specialization in the different classes of business and is designed for insurance and personnel from the wider business sector who are interested in being licensed as Sales Representative in the general insurance industry.

LOSS ADJUSTING

This programme is designed for persons already practicing loss adjusting and/or persons interested in making a career change. Emphasis is placed on observational, communication skills and analyzing information.

SUPERVISORY MANAGEMENT

The Certificate in Supervisory Management consists of 180 contact hours spread over a period of one year and one term. Each term lasts for four (4) months and the time allocation for each course is 45 hours.

INTRODUCTION TO CLAIMS

The Claims department is a very important part of any insurance organisation. This course is intended to inform and update claims personnel in their day to day work experience, through practical exercises, role play and lectures.

PRINCIPLES & PRACTICES OF MARINE INSURANCE

At the end of the course, the participating candidates are expected to have a good grasp of the rudiments of Marine Insurance Underwriting and Claims Principles for practical application at a senior level in their respective fields.

PRINCIPLES & PRACTICES OF REINSURANCE

The Principles and Practices of Reinsurance course are designed for students to have an acceptable level of knowledge, understanding, and application of Reinsurance. 

MOTOR INSURANCE INVESTIGATION

The Certificate in motor investigation course utilizes the basic concepts of allowing participants to properly and completely investigate and record the information necessary to evaluate collisions.

ENGLISH AND COMMUNICATION -02

This course aims to develop students’ ability to use standard English structures to express themselves clearly, precisely and fluently in speech and writing and to evaluate that ability in themselves and their peers.
