Associate Degree In Insurance Management
The Associate Degree in Insurance Management provides a unique opportunity to combine a practical education in Business with disciplines in Marketing and Insurance Law. A part-time or full-time option is available. The programme consists of 900 contact hours. Each term lasts for four (4) months and the time allocation for each course is 45 hours. Applicants re required passing all modules in the programme, every instrument of evaluation must be completed at the specified time. A 75% attendance at classes as well as appropriate conduct and appearance is expected of each student. The programme must be completed within five years.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
HIGH SCHOOL LEAVERS – Five (5) CXC, GCE or CSEC passes (including Mathematics and English Language or a Mathematical subject)
CHANGE OF CAREER & JOB EXPERIENCE – Twenty-five (25) yeas of age have passes in Mathematics and English Language or a Mathematical subject

CURRICULUM
This course is designed to allow for a broad knowledge of general insurance, the history of insurance, general insurance classes, developments in insurance, basic legal aspects of insurance and the laws governing the operations of Companies, Agents and Brokers. Introduction to Insurance forms part of the entry requirements to all certificate courses.

This course is designed to provide students with a grounding in theories and methods of research and Analysis. Primary emphasis will be placed on developing a basic understating of the philosophy and the logic underlying scientific inquiry, and appropriate research strategies, both quantitative and qualitative.
The first part of the course will be devoted to reviewing the methodological underpinnings of empirical Research in the social sciences. The second part of the course will be devoted to more specialized topics in the conduct of business research (including techniques of ‘qualitative analysis’) and to have students develop a small research proposal.
The object of Business Communication is to introduce you to the various forms of written and oral communication that are helpful and, in most cases, necessary in real-life situations or in our personal life.
In order to achieve success given these new realities, managers must equip themselves with the tools and techniques that are required for the optimal performance of their role in the workplace.
This course is designed to provide participants a forum to explore their own ethical and moral values as it relates to their business environment and the national context. It will help them to better appreciate the depth of the issues involved and provide them with some insights on how to handle ethical dilemmas they may encounter in their business environment.
This course is designed to teach individuals to understand the computer system and the basic concepts relating to it. Students will also develop problem-solving skills in the application of spreadsheet, database and word processing principles, principles and conventions to given scenarios. Students will also learn the role of the Internet and the importance of working in Teams.
This course is designed for students to develop a knowledge and understanding of underwriting philosophies, the implementation of underwriting systems, the management of underwriting functions and the management of the underwriting service, the ability to apply knowledge and skills to practical situations the ability to synthesise different aspect of the syllabus and apply them to given scenarios.
The Claims department is a very important part of any insurance organisation. This course is intended to inform and update claims personnel in their day to day work experience, through practical exercises, role play and lectures.
This course aims to develop students’ ability to use Standard English structures to express themselves clearly, precisely and fluently in speech and writing and to evaluate that ability in themselves and their peers. It is designed to alert students to the process used in oral and written communication. The course also focuses on providing students with the opportunities to produce different types of communication while selecting and combining forms, media, channels and technologies to maximize effective communication.
The Principles and Practices of Reinsurance course is designed for students to have an acceptable level of knowledge, understanding and application of Reinsurance. Students will be able to outline the knowledge of nature and function of reinsurance, the operation of quota share and surplus treaties, law relating to reinsurance and placing of reinsurance and the reinsurance markets.
The Marketing course provides a thorough knowledge of the understanding and application of marketing. Students will also have a knowledge and understanding of the history and development of marketing, the principles of product and planning, consumer behavior, communication and market research.
The Insurance Law course provides a thorough knowledge and understanding of the laws which form the background to the operation of insurance. Students will be required to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the system within which these laws operate and administered and the ability to apply knowledge and skills to simple situations.
This course will introduce students to the basic risk management principles. Student will get an understanding of the types of risks organizations face, the risk assessment needs to be carried out in order to mitigate against risks and the risk management methods used to manage risks.

The Certified Insurance Technician is a one year part-time programme (CIT) designed specifically for persons with a desire to advance to the Associateship of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII). Candidates will receive credits from the CIT courses to participate in the ACII programme. The courses will incorporate lectures and foster interaction between students and experts in the different fields.
The course provides insurance personnel with skills critical to the leadership and management of the insurance industry.
This course is designed for persons already practicing loss adjusting and/or persons interested in making a career change. Emphasis is placed on observational, communication skills and analyzing information.
This course is accommodated jointly with the CIPS and Jamaican German Automotive School Academy (JAGAS) where certification is awarded by National Council on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NCTVET)
This course introduces the study of law and the legal system. The course places emphasis on the role of the paralegal, professional ethics, critical thinking, legal reasoning and analysis and provides the opportunities to apply these skills.
